We sourced this coffee through Semilla, which aims to create real added value through long-term partnerships with farms and producers. Semilla supports producers not only by purchasing their coffee at fair prices, but also by working with them to improve cultivation methods and coffee quality year after year.
This coffee comes from the San Isidro farm and the brothers Edwin and Javier Burbano.
The San Isidro farm, where this coffee comes from, originally belonged to Edwin's grandfather and is located in the village of Los Robles (2030 m above sea level).
In addition to coffee, the Burbano family also grows beans, peas, granadilla, and lulo.
In 2019, they acquired two additional hectares from a neighboring farm—one hectare in Tabí and another in Caturra—completing the five hectares of the San Isidro farm.
Over the next four years, they dried their coffee to parchment beans. Lacking alternatives, they continued to sell it through a large multinational buyer on the local market, where it was blended into large, untraceable mixtures.
This micro lot is the farm's first lot to be processed and exported separately, and we are very happy to have discovered this coffee.
Edwin and Javier want to continue growing new coffee varieties that are adapted to the altitude and climate of their farm, and have planted Pink Bourbon for this purpose.
